Gov. Christie Appoints Jeff Chiesa to Senate Vacancy

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced today that he is appointing New Jersey Republican Attorney General Jeff Chiesa to the Senate vacancy created with the passing of Senator Frank Lautenberg.

Mr. Chiesa will not be a candidate for the special election to be held in October of this year to fill the remainder of Senator Lautenberg’s term.

Though his views on policy are not well known, Mr. Chiesa said today that he would describe himself as a “conservative Republican“.

On immigration reform, Chiesa has said he supports securing the border above all other priorities.
