The Idiocy of Gun Control: 3 Killed by a Knife-Wielding Attacker on a ‘Gun-Free’ Campus

An attack on Friday at a college in Wyoming left three people dead, including the alleged attacker. The assailant used a bow and arrow and a knife and, despite the “gun-free campus” policy, was still, nonetheless, able to kill.

How many more people have to die before society can just accept that this world is filled with dangerous people and that guns, when placed in the proper hands of responsible citizens, can greatly aid in the decline of senseless mayhem?

The characters and a few details always change, but the story remains the same. A student goes crazy and kills people. People wonder why, though there is never an answer more explanative than, “Some people are just crazy.”

The community mourns, and if the assailant used a gun, liberals come from out of the woodwork to push for gun control and question how the assailant could ever get his hands on a gun- as if gun control laws fix mal-intent.

This story is the same premise with different actors. A man, apparently, killed a woman with a knife on a street nearby Casper College, then went to the college and killed an instructor (in front of students) and then himself with what police called an “edged weapon.” It has since been revealed that the assailant shot the instructor with an arrow and then stabbed him.

Now, allow me to paint a couple of different alternate stories that could have happened: A man went crazy and wielded a knife at a woman on the street at which point the woman pulled out a .38 special and shot the would-be attacker. End of story.

Or, sadly, a woman was killed by an assailant who traveled to the nearby Casper College, apparently with the intent to assault an instructor. As the suspect threatened to kill him, a student in the class stood up and shot the would-be attacker four times.

But, instead, Casper College strictly prohibits the carrying of concealed firearms, even if they have a Wyoming permit to do so. Thankfully, the attacker had the good decency to kill himself before killing anyone else. But is it really good school policy to leave everybody at an attacker’s mercy until he’s good and ready to die by his own hand?

I went to a college that forbade the carrying of concealed weapons. However, such a policy was unenforceable and, actually, illegal, since Oregon law contains a preemption statute that declares that the Oregon legislature is the only institution that can govern firearm law- not counties, not cities and certainly not authoritarian universities.

Therefore, there was not a single occasion that I attended a class or an event on campus where I was not armed. Man has a right and duty to protect himself, and that right supersedes any policy that runs contrary to it.

This story is a tragedy- but it didn’t have to be. Weapons are easy to procure. Attempting to stop violence by making it more difficult to obtain a firearm does nothing to discourage those intent on violence. Having a well-armed population, on the other hand, creates the possibility of stopping violent attackers in their tracks early on and saving lives.

America needs to wake up and realize the dangers of the world. No longer can we abide gun policies that do nothing to disarm criminals, but that are highly successful at disarming those that give a damn about law and order.

I encourage everyone to support Students for Concealed Carry- an organization dedicated to demanding the means to protect themselves. Please check them out.

I believe responsible citizens of the USA, should be able to have and carry their guns, once permits and safety classes have been approved. We do not need to fear those who love hunting, target practice, or the right to protect their themselves and their family. These people will buy their guns legally, not in a dark alley from someone, who bought that gun from someone in a dark alley. No matter how hard we try to keep guns out the hands of crazy or evil pepole, we cannot do it succesfully. It is sad to say, but; sometimes life is just life. Man does not know all the questions and surely doesn’t have the answers, there are things that only God knows and until He decides we need to know…we’ll just have to trust Him.

Don’t forget that a “Zip Gun” is easy to make, easier to use, and just as deadly. Also don’t forget the number of people murdered in the most controlled areas in the entire world, PRISONS. Then remember that most of these victims are NOT KILLED BY ANY KIND OF A GUN.

The only thing that will stop the liberals from further restricting the 2nd Amendment is lawsuits against he colleges for failure to protect their students. If the universities will not allow their students/staff/faculty to protect themselves, then it becomes the responsibility of the university to ensure their protection. When incidents like this happen the universities need to be sued for negligence. Period.
Continuing their pistolphobic rantings has done nothing to curb the violence. But hit them in the pocket book and in the courts and lets see how fast they back away from their unwarranted fear of self-protection.

Great article on campus gun control and carry…

That is what the far left don’t have the “common sense” to understand– the shootings occur where you are not allowed to have guns…..

If you are a law abiding citizen and can obtain a license you should be able to carry anywhere. This would limit the ability of others to hurt random people.

  6. Dean says:

Nice article but you forgot to mention one very important aspect of having a publicly known and promoted policy that legal gun carry IS allowed on campus. These killers are crazy but not stupid. They are less likely to take fatal action when they know there is a high probablity they will meet swift and certain armed resistance.

    Keep up the good work.

From the point of the predator – prey relationship, there is no difference between the African Savannah and Anystreet USA. The rules are always the same. Predators will take the weakest and least able to defend themselves because those who are weak represent the least threat of injury or death to the predator.

Those who demand “gun control” appear to be from one of two lines of thought. The first are idealist who refuse to recognize the prey – predator relationship in both man and nature. The second appear to be those in power who are depending upon that relationship to keep them in power.

  8. WALTC says:

Actually, it was the son of the professor that did the killing. In Wyoming you only need to otherwise qualify for a conceal carry permit to conceal carry. so there are plenty of people walking around with guns, as long as they are not in a gun free zone. Which as you noted Casper College is.

When I go elk hunting in Bear country, we put No Bear Zone signs around the camp. A couple years ago a Game & Fish officer stopped by an when he saw the signs he asked if they worked. We told him that so far we didn’t have nay bears in camp so they must work as well as no guns allowed signs. Some day we’ll probably run into a bear that ignores the sign and comes into camp any way.

    • Armed in WY says:

No, the community colleges are NOT “gun-free” zones – they are state owned and state operated, therefore they are under STATE LAW – open carry is completely legal and lawful, but, the college will apply “academic sanctions” to any student who does so.

  9. Bryan says:

They have my support. In Utah, a law was proposed similar to that described in Oregon, where universities can’t be made to be “gun-free.” Not sure what happened with that.

  10. Karen Pridgen says:

I don’t think they should have to be concealed.

  11. willowspring says:

“A gun, like any other source of power, is a force for either good or evil, being neither in itself, but dependent upon those who possess it.”

When will these liberals understand that if a person wants to do harm to another, they will do so, even if they have to use their bare hands and strangle them to death. It has been true since the beginning of time.

The first recorded murder; how did Cain murder Abel? Did he use a club? Or was his weapon of choice a knife? Regardless, it was malice that caused the murder.

  12. Lyneil says:

I guess now we should ban arrows, knives, hammers, rocks, or anything else that a maniac could use as a weapon. If he might strangle someone with a scarf, we should ban those too. THEN we’ll be safe.

  13. Jeff Davis says:

These liberals are out of their minds. If they just made murder legal, the crime rate would go down very fast. Liberals and their stupid regulations!

  14. Alan C says:

An armed society is a polite society.

  15. Armed in WY says:

State colleges in Wyoming are NOT “gun-free” zones.
It was State Law that one could not carry “concealed” on a college campus, now it seems that it is up to the “security” department of said college.
However, if the college is State Owned, as in a community college – it is completely legal and lawful to carry on campus, no matter what the college “policy” might be, provided you carry OPENLY. State owned and operated, State Law prevails and the State of Wyoming has full and complete pre-emption ….. none but the State of Wyoming may make any “law” regarding the possession or carry of a firearm …. discharge of said firearm may be controlled by local law or ordinance.

Yes, I know this to be a fact because I took them to task on this very issue

The only caveat is that if you are a “student” of that college, you have agreed to abide by their “policy” and are subject to “academic sanction” if you obey State Law and exercise your God-given, Constitutionally GUARANTEED right to provide for your own protection.

I remember quite well the Rodney King riots in LA. I also remember reading about several prominent actors/actresses, gun control devotees all, showing up at the homes of their neighbors they knew to be well armed. As soon as the animals were back in their cages, these same cowardly hypocrites returned to squawking about the need for more gun control. This man killed with a bow and arrow, so what good is gun control? Pass any laws you like: I won’t register, surrender, or allow my weapons to be taken by agents of any state.

  17. Randy131 says:

A government that can disarms it’s citizens is unaccountable to it’s subjects!

  18. K smith says:

The only reason washington is going toward gun control or Ban as the UN calls it is to take away all our guns so we wont be able to defend ourselfs from the UN when they try to make the USA into part of the world order where the UN controls every thing including to the fact that they take any land you own and other stuff you will have NO freedoms and NO liberties. STOP agenda 21 if you dont know what it is you need to read about it and help stop it before it is inforsed

  19. Sean says:

Excuse me Greg, I just read the statement you recently made about gun-control, however I feel the need to state one flaw in your argument: where as the woman could have shot him (which she may not even have needed to do more than pull the gun out), if students were permitted guns on campus, then an enraged student could easily shoot whoever he felt like, then another student would shoot him and potentially another shoot him in the hysteria. Sure, maybe guns publicly, but not in the hands of temperamental students.

    • Greg Campbell says:

Thank you for writing. Yes, it’s always a possibility that an enraged student can shoot another student. However, that can happen regardless. Students may shoot whomever they feel like. Doing so on a campus that restricts the right of the law-abiding to carry a gun only makes it easier for those that don’t care about law and order. Nobody ever said, “Well, I would go shoot up the school… if only it weren’t a gun-free campus. Damn.” What I am addressing here is not that it’s a good idea for colleges to turn into the O.K. Corral, I’m just saying that there is always a possibility of someone going crazy, and having a trained, well-armed population to counter that threat is not only prudent, but a right we enjoy as Americans.

      Thanks for writing.

    • Jeff says:

Certainly that ‘temperamental’ student would never consider running over another student of their choosing in the school parking lot in their ‘assault Honda’…. only guns are weapons.. nothing else…

I work in a building full of armed people. We argue, we fight, we bitch and moan, but we NEVER pull our guns on each other to settle an argument.

Either people are responsible or they are not. If they are, no laws are needed. If they are not, no pile of laws will change that!

  20. jrvinny says:

I think it’s high time we enact a law restricting bows and arrows on campus. Oh, and fingernail files. And probably paper clips.

  21. It’s not just a matter of ‘campus’ security; it’s a matter of NATIONAL security!

After the Japanese decimated our fleet in Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941, they could have sent their troop ships and carriers directly to California to finish what they started. The prediction from our Chief of Staff was we would not be able to stop a massive invasion until they reached the Mississippi River. Remember, we had a 2 million man Army and war ships all fighting the Germans.
So, why did they not invade?
After the war, the remaining Japanese generals and Admirals were asked that question.
Their answer? They knew that almost every home had guns and the Americans knew how to use them. (Was it Yamamoto who said “there’s a gun behind every blade of grass…”?)
    The world’s largest army … America’s hunters!
I had never thought about this … a blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of States and arrived at a striking conclusion: there were over
600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin alone.

Allow me to restate that number…
Over the last several months, Wisconsin ‘s hunters became the eighth largest army in the world!
More men under arms than in Iran … more than in France and Germany combined … in the state of Wisconsion alone!
These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt with firearms, and no one was killed. That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and Michigan ‘s 700,000 hunters, all of whom have now returned home.
Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that the hunters of those four States alone would comprise the largest army in the World.

Remember: Criminals LOVE unarmed victims, and TYRANTS love UNARMED CITIZENS!!

The point? America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown fire-power. Hunting — it’s not just a way to fill the freezer; it’s a matter of national security. … {:o|

    • Rick says:

But will America be safe from the threat of its own politicians? The “Justice” department ran “Fast & Furious” to gin up support to get rid of the 2nd Amendment and Hillary is signing off on a UN gun ban for America.

    Thanks David Whitaker.
Although I am no longer a hunter per say, I am still a gun owner and I still enjoy shooting sports. I agree totally with your comments and would like to add a thought. I live in IL and let me say this is the stupidest state I have ever lived when it comes to politics INCLUDING Gun Control.
I am from the south and let me just mention a suburb of Atlanta named Kennesaw, GA.
Do some research here. They voted in many years ago, a law that states “In order to reside there, you MUST own a handgun” It is an interesting story and there crime rate is near non existent. Government could learn from this, but they and the media would rather suppress this story.

  24. GrizzlyIX says:

And today, in Free America, over 200 MILLION firearms, owned by law-abiding, patriotic citizens, killed or injured NO ONE. . . . . .

  25. Texas Jim says:

NOTE: There were a lot of people killed in the world before gun powder was invented. This is an example of how to do it without a gun! There are plenty of gun laws now. To make gun control work, have the courts enforce them. Why prosecute the people who have legal firearms for hunting or pest control suffer because of a few? Drunk drivers kill a bunch each year. Stop selling liquor? That didn’t work so well did it? Well, let’s quit selling cars, that causes death. See how silly trying to get Americans to turn in their guns really is.
The U.N. wants this so we can be peasants like the people of their countries. That’s why the U.S. has never been attacked. Use your head for something for other than a place to put your hat!…
