Leading gun-grabber Senator Dianne Feinstein has declared her intent to propose yet another assault weapons ban in the Senate.
Because that will fix the problem…
On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Feinstein confidently outlined her intention to pass legislation to ban “assault weapons” that meet certain absurd criteria. She stated,
“I can tell you that [Obama] is going to have a bill to lead on, because it’s a first-day bill that I’m going to introduce in the Senate and the same bill is going to be introduced in the House- a bill to ban assault weapons. It will ban the sale, the transfer, the importation and the possession. Not retroactively but prospectively. And it will ban the same for big clips, drums or strips of more than 10 bullets. So there will be a bill. We’ve been working on it now for a year. We’ve tried to take my bill from ’94 to 2004 and perfect it, we believe we have, we exempt over 900 specific weapons that will not fall under the bill. But the purpose of this bill is to get just what Mayor Bloomberg said- weapons of war off the streets of our cities.”
Someone should remind Feinstein that the reason the assault weapons ban was allowed to expire with nothing but a whisper of protest from the left was because it proved ineffective at stopping crime. The assault weapons ban was passed with a ten-year shelf life because up until that point, it was conjecture as to what kind of effect it would have on crime rates. So, the left was able to cram it down America’s throat, and in 2004, it died a quiet death because crime rose in many states and the banning of assault weapons did not seem to have any meaningful effect.
Now, callously drafting off of the tremendous emotion flowing in the wake of the horrendous murders in Connecticut, the left is trying to push America into supporting a ban that will do nothing to stop violent crimes.
Remember: Connecticut had an assault weapons ban and yet, it did nothing to deter this crime.
