Why Are Democrats More Concerned with a Talking Yellow Bird than with Real Issues?

In a weird twist that sounds like a synopsis of a bad SNL skit, the Democratic Party is now soliciting money based on the defense of Big Bird.

I know, I wish I was joking, too.

In a recent fundraising email, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chief Operating Officer Kristie Mark announced the intent of the DCCC to defend Big Bird- the welfare-dependent fowl.

She writes,

“What did Big Bird ever do to Mitt Romney?

For two years, Republicans have been pushing this crazy idea that Public Broadcasting is the cause of all our nation’s problems. It’s ridiculous.

Let’s tell Mitt and the Republicans in Congress that their failed policies of the past caused the deficit, not PBS!

Join Team Big Bird: Help us reach 100,000 strong standing up for Public Broadcasting

If Mitt Romney had his way, Sesame Street would be toast. And it wouldn’t solve anything.

Add your name to stick up for Public Broadcasting: http://dccc.org/Team-Big-Bird

Yeah, because that’s what Mitt Romney meant. He did not cite PBS as just one example of the wasteful spending by government, it’s that the man has a pathological dislike for oversized, talking birds. Get serious.

PBS is not the biggest fish to fry; we all can agree on that. However, when Republicans look to cut massive programs, they’re labeled as extremists. When they change tactics to get the budget under control and advocate a thousand smaller cuts (to things like PBS), they’re, apparently, bird-hating-whack-jobs. The central message behind the Democrats’ stubbornness with regards to spending cuts is that whether the cuts are big or small, Democrats don’t want to part with any programs.

With a $16 trillion national debt and four straight years of deficits over $1 trillion, you would think Democrats would pick and choose their battles, but apparently that’s too much to hope for.

Much like Sandra Fluke’s gripes, the Democrats’ complaints are ridiculous; whether it be birth control or Sesame Street, I, nor Republicans, are not prohibiting access to them- they’re just going to have to pay for it themselves.

And “Team Big Bird?” That is incredibly lame. I swear, here and now, that just out of principle, I will never give money to a cause or organization that is named after a puppet, a cartoon or any claymation character. Our country is in some real trouble here- can we please stop talking about Big Bird and get back to discussing substantive issues that will be affecting us, our kids and our grandkids?

Oh my goodness, guess they just don’t have anything better to talk about, they don’t want to bring up the economy or the job unemploment crisis because this just reinforces how bad Obamas’ policies have failed….
