Tomorrow, Brett Kimberlin – the oft-rumored proprietor of now defunct BreitbartUnmasked.com – will return to Court to face a sanctions motion brought on behalf of Conservative Blogger Aaron Walker by the Bloggers Defense Team. This case is the frontline in the battle for freedom of speech on the internet, and ensuring Conservative Bloggers are free from harassment by the left.
Breitbart Unmasked has been stalking and harassing conservative bloggers and defenders of freedom for years. In the beginning, the anonymous prevaricator was content directing his fire at the legendary Andrew Breitbart. After the legend’s tragic and untimely passing, they went searching for new Conservative targets.
Perhaps coincidentally (wink, wink) many of Breitbart Unmasked’s new targets had beefs with a certain former domestic terrorist-turned liberal-progressive extremist and “social justice activist,” Brett Kimberlin. Kimberlin doesn’t much care to have anyone mentioning his past as a convicted bomber, perjurer, and drug dealer—apparently it’s bad for “business” for the two supposed nonprofits – Justice Through Music and Velvet Revolution – that he regularly claims to control.
That’s why when Conservative bloggers Aaron Walker, Patrick Frey, Mandy Nagy, and others started exercising their First Amendment rights as journalists and media entities to write about Kimberlin’s sordid past (on which there is literally a book written) and his current connections with progressive financiers like George Soros, Barbara Streisand, and Teresa Heinz-Kerry, things got interesting.
First, Kimberlin started threatening to sue everyone in sight, leading to drawn-out court battles in Maryland earlier this year. Next, Breitbart Unmasked went on the attack going after the supposed “Breitbart Crew” of “enemies” to discredit their work, smear them individually, and openly harass them.
Many on the internet have even connected Kimberlin and some of his known associates to the dangerous form of harassment known as “SWATting.” This vile tactic involves calling the police claiming a vicious crime has just occurred at the victim’s residence, and provoking an armed police response. Unsuspecting police rush to the house and awaken the frighten victims, with guns drawn and sirens blaring. Some members of the Breitbart Crew have experienced “SWATting” firsthand – including Patrick Frey, Erick Ericson, and Aaron Walker.
That’s where the Bloggers Defense Team came in. Led by Tea Party & Conservative attorney Dan Backer, the team took over a Virginia lawsuit against Kimberlin that has now gone through multiple hearings and an array of filings. A Judge has now ordered Kimberlin to produce discovery related to his – and his nonprofits – actions. Kimberlin is being hauled before a judge this Friday to face potential Sanctions for continuing to defy the Judge’s order! This discovery is the key to discovering the truth about Kimberlin’s actions, and he is fighting tooth and nail in defiance of the Court’s order.
The Bloggers Defense Team also filed a federal case in Maryland defending all bloggers’—liberal and conservative—right to free speech on the internet involving matters of public concern, and to keep Lawfare practitioners like Kimberlin from using the courts as a weapon. This case is moving forward fast and will be in discovery soon; victory here will deal a fatal blow to the tawdry efforts to criminalize free speech by these progressive extremists.
One signature victory came when Breitbart Unmasked, once the most vicious voice in attacking conservatives on the internet, mysteriously shut down. Its own final blog credits pressure from of The Bloggers Defense Team & Dan Backer and the impending discovery against their dirty dealings – for their closure. Meanwhile, Brett Kimberlin may be facing sanctions in the Virginia case for defying a court order, and the nonprofits Kimberlin controls are facing potential scrutiny of their finances and conduct that could unravel the entire web of his continuing misdeeds.
The Bloggers Defense Team can’t do all this alone. Kimberlin has the backing of some of the biggest names in the progressive extremist movements.
