“Tingles” Matthews and His Constitutional Confusion

As Chris “Tingles” Matthews goes further and further down the rabbit hole of insanity, he’s still proving that he’s good for a few laughs. Not with him- at him.

In an odd statement, thoroughly bereft of any understanding of what our Constitution entails, Matthews claimed that Romney is out of line to challenge the president as the Constitution protects President Obama from being challenged. It seems someone skipped 10th grade government…

In the second Presidential debate, on one of the rare instances when Romney was not interrupted by moderator Candy Crowley, Romney was speaking about energy policies when President Obama stood up to interject. Romney put up his hand and said, “You’ll get your chance in a moment, I’m still speaking.” As Obama continued to try and interrupt the Governor, Romney stood firm and stated, “That wasn’t a question. That was a statement.”

On his show, Matthews played the clip and explained, “I don’t think he understands the Constitution of the United States. He’s the president of the United States. You don’t say, ‘You’ll get your chance.’”

Now, I am not a Constitutional scholar, but I pride myself on being up to snuff on the general outlines of what is and what is not permitted by the Constitution. Fundamentally, the Constitution outlines how the government operates and serves as a long list of ways in which the government will conduct itself. Much of the Constitution is, essentially, a long list of things the government can’t do to its citizens; it is not a document that curtails our speech and it is certainly not a document that entails how we must address our president. That this idiot continues to have a TV show serves as a testament to MSNBC’s apparent ratings death wish.

Chris Matthews has become such a joke that while he champions all things Obama, Matthews is, nevertheless, the butt of jokes by Obama, himself. At the Al Smith dinner this week, referencing Matthews’ increasingly erratic behavior in the wake of the slow implosion of the Obama Campaign, President Obama noted, “I would particularly like to apologize to Chris Matthews. Four years ago, I gave him a thrill up his leg. This time around, I gave him a stroke.”

Ouch. If President Mom-jeans is bagging on you as you continue to champion his agenda, then you would do well to wonder if you’ve really come off the rails.

What makes Matthews’ condemnation of Romney so ironic is that he has the audacity to accuse Romney of being ignorant of constitutional matters. I wonder if Tingles will abide by his condemnation of perceived disrespect towards the president when Romney is president… If he’s still on the air in January.
