Obama and the Power of Self-Delusion

According to the Obama Campaign, the presidential race “is tied.” That might be stretching it a bit…

The Obama Campaign sent me this email yesterday,

“Listen, this race is tied.

What we do over the next 22 days will determine not just the next four years, but what this country looks like for decades to come.

That’s what I’ll be fighting for up on that stage tomorrow night — but I can’t do it alone.

This campaign’s final and most critical FEC deadline is coming up on Wednesday. It’s an important test of our strength at a time when the other side is plotting a big surge in negative ads.

This grassroots organization has never been beat — but we’re at the stage of an election where everyone needs to step up and chip in. So please, don’t wait any longer. Donate $5 or more right now”

I like how even when asking for money, the Obama Campaign is telling people that they “need to step up and chip in.” I’ll give him this much: he sure is good at telling people what to do with their money.

While I appreciate their optimism, the fact is that the race is not truly tied when polls that oversample Democrats by as much as +9 are only coming back with Obama a few points ahead.

A recent Washington Post poll found Obama leading by 2, 49-47. However, to create that poll, the fine propagandists at the Washington Post had to oversample Democrats by +3. But that was taken in happier times for the liberals. Sunday’s polls spell much more doom and gloom for the incumbent failure.

Sunday’s polls relied on a much heavier Democratic sampling to keep Obama in the same spot. The Washington Post gives Obama the lead by 3, 49-46, but with an over-sampling of Democrats by +9.

The Washington Post is rigging the polls, and still only coming back with less than 50% voting for Obama, and only 3 points ahead of Romney. It’s like cheating on a math test and still only getting a D-. It does not indicate success for the future.

What’s even better about this email is the cracks in the foundation are slowly beginning to show. The calm incumbent president of a month ago is now ranting like a loon about Big Bird and pandering for every last vote in battleground states that are rapidly turning “toss-up” or “leaning Romney.”

Yes, I would be less than honest if I didn’t claim to be enjoying the show.
