Yesterday, as I sat in a coffee house in Chico, California, I inadvertently eavesdropped on a conversation going on at the next table. I know it’s rude, but I can’t help it, if people start talking politics, I just take notice. The lady was discussing Obama’s foreign policy and the embarrassment his apologies are causing for Americans. She then claimed that the Obama Administration is considering releasing the “Blind Sheik,” Omar Abdel-Rahman- the spiritual adviser to the 1993 World Trade Center bombers.
“No, she must be mistaken,” I thought. It turns out, the lady was right. The Obama Administration, apparently feeling like weak foreign policy coupled with apologies to the Islamic Community was not enough, is considering releasing Abdel-Rahman. Disgraceful.
Abdel-Rahman is an Egyptian terrorist who is a classic illustration with the flawed logic of lax immigration enforcement. Despite being a radical cleric who issued fatwas against the “infidels” and called for jihad against the West, he resided comfortably in New York City and was bounced around in the endless bureaucracy within the immigration process for years while he encouraged terrorism both domestically and abroad by funding it and acting as a spiritual adviser to terrorists- preaching that it was their duty to God to commit violence.
Abdel-Rahman was the spiritual leader of al-Gama’a al-Islamiyya, a radical Egyptian Islamic group that had ties to Al-Qaeda. He was arrested in 1993 after his group had helped in the 1993 World trade Center bombing. He was arrested while he and his followers were plotting the New York Landmark Bombings, which was a plot to blow up The United Nations Headquarters, various tunnels and bridges to and from New York City and the FBI’s main New York City Office.
In 1995, Abdel-Rahman was found guilty of seditious conspiracy and sentenced to life. He now spends his days enjoying the comfort of a medical facility, courtesy of the taxpayers and the “infidels” he would love to murder.
Note the difference between Bill Clinton and Barack Obama; to his credit, at least Bill Clinton did not make excuses for Abdel-Rahman and apologize to the Muslim community for offending them. How would have Obama handled Abdel-Rahman?
As the Muslim Brotherhood took control of Egypt, Mohamed Morsi declared that he would fight to free the imprisoned terrorist. Now it looks as if in the ultimate act of extreme cowardice, the Obama Administration is in talks to negotiate the release of the terrorist with the misguided hope that this will quell the unforgivable attacks on American embassies in the Middle east.
Amidst denials by officials of any such negotiations, Representative Peter King and intelligence officials have confirmed that the Obama Administration is in talks with the Egyptian government to hand over the terrorist. King and other congressional Republicans sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, saying,
“The release of Abdel-Rahman or any terrorist who plots to kill innocent Americans would be seen for what it is: a sign of weakness and a lack of resolve by the United States and its president.”
This is ridiculousness that parallels Chamberlain’s appeasement of Hitler; this kind of weakness and cowardice is the biggest slap in the face to every American. Weak foreign policy created a quagmire of violence in the Middle East against American territories, and we are now looking to double-down on this weakness in the pansy-ass hope that if we give them everything they want, maybe they won’t hurt us. As what militant Muslims truly want is the destruction of the West, I don’t see acquiescing to every demand to be the bargain the Obama Administration obviously does.
It’s time for a regime change. Americans deserve leadership with a backbone and president that doesn’t apologize for America and undercut us every chance they get.
