It turns out that Mitt Romney believes in giving out money to the less fortunate. However, unlike the incumbent, he seems to favor voluntary charity instead of the state-mandated shakedown and redistribution of wealth so loved by President Obama.
In a move that can only be bittersweet for Democrats, Romney released another year of tax returns, only to show that he had given nearly a third of his income last year to charity. This proves not only what we already knew- that Harry Reid is a slanderous loudmouth- but that evidently, the much-maligned, evil, greedy Romney actually puts his money where his mouth is.
“[Charitable gifts] reached 29 percent of [Rpmney's] income in 2011 when he donated $4 million out of his $13.7 million income, according to a Sept. 21 statement describing the Romney’s 2011 tax returns.
The combination of Romney’s charitable donations and tax payments to federal and state authorities – which averaged 20 percent, and never fell below 13.66 percent — amounted to 38.5 percent of his income over 20 years.
The campaign did not release cumulative numbers for his income, taxes paid or charitable donations.”
While this is obviously quite impressive, don’t expect to hear much from the liberal media about the voluntary giving by the wealthy Romney- It flies in the face of the false narrative of him being an uncaring, rich fat-cat that the left has worked so hard to cultivate.
Munro went on to state,
“Romney’s generosity contrasts with President Barack Obama’s donations.
Obama gave 1 percent of his income, or $10,772, to charity between 2000 and 2004, according to tax data provided in January 2012. In 2005 and 2006, Obama increased his charitable giving to 5 percent of of his income, or $137,622 on $2.6 million in income. That figure grew to 5.7 percent in 2007.
In 2011, however, Obama’s charitable donations jumped to 22 percent of his income — $172,000 of the $792,000 he earned.
Obama’s donations were far higher than his running mate Joe Biden’s.
In the 10 years leading up to the 2008 election, he donated an average of $369 per year, or roughly 0.3 percent of his income.
Since his election to vice-President, however, Joe Biden upped his charitable giving $5,350, or 1.46 percent of his income, in 2010.
Paul Ryan, the Republican vice presidential nominee, donated nearly $13,000 to charity in 2011, or about 4 percent of his income.”
This is satisfying to see. Mitt Romney has made his money and he should feel free to keep every cent he makes if he wishes. However, these figures are not only encouraging as not only are they helping people, but it shows the power of more money in peoples’ pockets. More freedom to choose what to do with one’s money is never a bad thing.
I’m not heartless, I am generally in favor of helping people. However, my spirit of giving has taken a beating over the years as my money is siphoned off by taxes to fund state-enforced charity. As I sit in line at the grocery store, my hard-earned money in hand, I often see people paying with food stamp cards and I think, “I’m glad I was able to contribute to your purchase of two cases of Mountain Due and a package of Oreos.” Sometimes, I truly wish my money was not being stolen to give to welfare programs so that I might have disposable income to give to charities in which I believe. The Red Cross receives no money from me; the government got to my “donations” first.
Let’s all do our part to spread this information far and wide. The liberal narrative has gone on too long. Do your part by forwarding this post to anybody you feel would appreciate it or could otherwise learn from it. If Obama cared about the middle class as much as he says he does, he would be putting more of his money where his mouth is, instead of asking us to foot the bill.
