Many of our most hard working and ambitious employees have either had no interest in understanding the political forces that affect them in the workplace or have avoided it because they were intimidated from the amount of information and confusion it creates. It is no mystery that our nation is suffering due to mass unemployment. From now to the election I will be publishing a series of six newsletters was produced for the benefit of people, especially employees, who want to learn more about the economic and political landscape for the upcoming elections. The newsletters attempt to connect the dots for employees so they will better understand how the issues business’ face will affect them personally. Often, employees are far removed from involvement with issues that affect businesses such as laws, regulations, fees, taxes, etc. These newsletters will let employees see the big picture.
As an employer, it is your choice whether share these newsletters with your employees, but I certainly hope you do. Regardless of whether employees are union or non-union, they should understand the issues. As your business goes, so goes the fate of your workers. All too often, employees believe companies and owners are bursting with cash, regardless of the economic climate. It is extremely important that we take the proper steps in engaging our employees so they will better understand our hurdles, and understand we are doing everything in our power to stay alive. With the help of well-informed employees, we can get through the through the election.
Just to lay the groundwork, as to what to expect in the coming weeks the first newsletter is an introduction as to the importance of voting in general. It illustrates some of the economic issues that directly affect them. The second touches upon the differences between the Republican and Democratic parties in dealing with the economy. It also explains the media and its biases. The third newsletter focuses on prioritizing what issues are most important to each of us. The fourth describes the value of business owners and addresses inflation. The fifth gives a brief description of national debt, jobs and the budget deficit. The sixth is a recap, emphasizing the most important content of the combined newsletters.
These newsletters do not address social issues unless they directly pertain to the economy, and when they do, only touches upon them. The series is for the specific purpose of addressing the economy and what business owners and companies are up against. They are designed to empower employees by educating them on the basics of economics so they can make educated choices at the polls.
The first newsletter should go out to the staff on Monday, Sept. 17. Each subsequent newsletter will go out on the following Monday. This gives staff enough time in case they are going to vote early. The bottom portion of the first newsletter is left blank so your state and county voting information can be inserted. If you choose not to include the voting information, you can simply leave it blank. I will post is what is being used for Clark County, Nev. It gives you an idea of what information is included regarding registration, early voting, times, etc. Please feel free to cut and paste/ take and leave the ideas you want for distributions at your work place.
